Weddings are joyous occasions, of course, but they can also be stressful; with so many important decisions to make, the last thing you and your fiance need to worry about is the reliability of your limousine or private car service for your big day. Luckily, Prestige Limousine has compiled a list of tips and questions to ask to help you choose the best transportation company for your your wedding.
Tip #1. Consult the NLA.
Because membership into the National Limousine Association requires private car service and limousine companies to abide by a strict code of safety standards and ethics, the NLA’s list of local members is a great place to start looking for the perfect wedding day limo service. Just visit www.limo.org and click on the Resources tab to search the database for car service companies in your area.
Tip #2: Determine The Number of Passengers Before Calling For A Quote.
Sure, the private car from the church, chapel, cathedral, or synagogue to the reception location (and also from the reception to the hotel) will probably only need to accommodate two people – you and your new wife or husband. But what about a larger car to transport the bride and her bridesmaids to the chapel? Would the parents or grandparents of the newlyweds also like to arrive at the chapel in comfort and luxury? Knowing the exact number of passengers on the day of your wedding will help your private car service or limousine company give an accurate quote and ensure that the appropriate cars are reserved at the right times.
Tip #3: Ask If More Than One Company Will Be Supplying Cars For Your Wedding.
Often, private car service companies with smaller fleets will enlist professional colleagues to assist in large events like weddings, galas, and graduation ceremonies. While most of these colleagues are extremely professional and highly-regarded companies, it’s always a good idea for the consumer (you) to know exactly who you will be working with, especially on a day as important as your wedding day. If, after researching the affiliate company, you are unsatisfied with their quality of service, we recommend finding an operator with a fleet large enough to manage the entire wedding.
Tip #4: Allow For Extra Time.
Because weddings have a lot of moving parts, they often fail to stay faithful to schedules and timetables; be sure to reserve your private car or SUV for an extra hour or two beyond the estimated time you think you will leave or arrive. Keep in mind, too, that car service companies usually have more than one service booked in a single day, and many will not be able to accommodate last-minute requests for time extensions. It’s always better to reserve more time than not enough.
Tip #5: Make Sure Everything Is In Order.
Most car service companies require a deposit 3-6 months before your wedding date; insist on signing a written contract at this time, or if this is not possible, within a week of putting down the deposit. 1-2 weeks before your wedding day, call and schedule an appointment to visit your car service company’s office and inspect the vehicles, preferably the ones that will be used on your wedding day.
Tip #6: Limit The Alcohol Intake.
Weddings are meant to be fun occasions, but a mishandled cocktail or beer on the way to the wedding venue can spell disaster for those wearing expensive tuxedos and dresses. To avoid catastrophes like these, we recommend keeping alcohol consumption to a minimum while taking a luxury car to or from the wedding venue and reception hall. There will be plenty of time for drinks at the reception; while in the car, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Tip #7: Consider Hiring A Designated Driver For Your Guests.
If you anticipate your guests having a little bit too much fun at your wedding reception, you might think about hiring a sedan or SUV to help transport inebriated friends and family members home at the end of the night. This service will make your overall wedding bill slightly larger, true, but it is nowhere near the cost of just one D.U.I arrest.
